Snake in the grass

This box turtle (the red eyes are characteristic of males) is exploring the woods near my home. Recent research places turtles closer to birds and dinosaurs than to lizards and snakes. Maybe that is why his face looks somehow prehistoric to me.

Coming out of his shell

I photographed this bee at a shutter speed to freeze its face and the rhododendrons to be sharp but to have a hint of blur on its whirring wings.

I like the way the deep color of the shaded foreground flower fades to lighter tones in the background where the flowers are in sun.

   on a stone- perhaps a bird version of camouflage?

Chipmunks recently emerged from hibernation are doing celebration dances showing appreciation for the warmer weather.

But begonias make a good substitute. This cat at a local plant nursery found a soft place to sleep on these flowers which look a bit worse for wear in their use as a cat bed. It gives a whole new meaning to flower bed.

  I shot this maple with leaves blowing in the wind using a slow shutter speed and also gently moving the camera during the exposure. This created an impressionist image that hints of trees and spring and how leaves move in the wind.
